About Backflow Corp. of New York

Our firm, Backflow Corp. of N.Y. was formed on June 3, 1986 to specialize in backflow testing as a separate entity from our already established plumbing and heating business. It is a rare occurrence that we enjoy and are proud of the fact that the current head of our business, Eric Christensen, is the third generation of Master Plumbers in the family. Members of our family also run our office.

Backflow Corp. of N.Y. was an outgrowth of the New York State legislation that mandated that water supply mains to certain buildings have a backflow prevention device on it to protect the public water supply from possible contamination from those buildings. It mandated not only the installation of these devices but their annual inspection to ensure that they were functioning properly. It is given to the individual water supply districts and companies to carry out the legislation and they are responsible for the monitoring of the installation and testing of the devices by private firms such as ours engaged in this specialized business.

It is important that a Master Plumber who is also a Certified Backflow Tester be responsible for the testing of backflow devices and it is now required in Suffolk County and hopefully will soon be required in Nassau County. A lot can go wrong with a device, so that would seriously affect a building’s water supply. Only a Licensed Master Plumber possesses the knowledge and ability to handle such situations.
